why do you have to fill in the letters with the grid upside down and backwards?

but people are way too fast to judge. crossword construction requires patience and good sense and apparently the bad reviews come from those with neither. stick to candy crush. this app takes some getting used to - meaning you actually have to look through the menus and try a few different things - but soon its quite simple to understand. i am a professional, published and paid constructor and have used this app since release. it is unfortunate that bad reviews probably have prevented further updates...otherwise 5 stars.

No documentation, no website...no possibility to create your own wordlist though the description states you can do so. Im so disappointed.

Its not worth a dollar. The controls are confusing and it crashes every time I try to open the settings. I want my money back.

The grid never changes size or width or length

Ive never thought I could create a crossword puzzle before, but now I can! And making them personal and fun is really neat! Nice app. Can we export the puzzles to twitter or facebook? that would be cool. then I could share what I make with my friends!

Maybe its just me but this is too complicated and didnt do what I needed it to do...make a crossword puzzle quick and easily. This does neither.

This app is great and does exactly what you would think. TXT and PUZ support is particularly useful, and the autofill function is fairly quick and usually comes up with reasonable solutions. A few quibbles that would net a 5 star review: 1) Support for rebuses and circles is not available. 2) The ability to lock certain cells as "theme" cells so they arent cleared when autofilled answers are would make puzzle creation much faster (because you could reset the autofill without reloading a saved semi blank draft). 3) The clue creation tool is generally very strong, but Ive had at least one make no sense (elementary, clued as "with 24-across, well known line..." when there is no 24-across in the puzzle). 4) An explanation of the autofill hierarchy system would be of great interest, as the settings are currently a little unclear (eg what is optimization, exactly?).

Just downloaded it and found no user manual. Tried to find some way to maneuver my way into finding one and got into an area that I cannot get out of. Needless to say, I cant get anything done with it. Help

This appears to be a waste of money. No user guide and not user friendly.

this app STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!! I managed to figure out how to put the letters but when we had to make spaces black it filled up random spots and pretty much deleted the whole puzzle

Worst app Ive ever purchased! Should have read the reviews... Wont make that mistake again! Directions would help! Cant believe apple hasnt removed this app. RIPOFF!!!!

Its actually a decent app if youre not an idiot. But how do you export finished puzzles?

This app has made my crossword-constructing life much easier. I used to use software made for PC only, because there was nothing at all for the Mac that did the job. Every PC-owner I knew gave me their old machine. Then would follow a bunch of exporting to a USB port drive (the machines werent hooked up to the internet) and emailing to get it to my newspapers layout person. XWord Author is fast and has a great dictionary. Its clue assortment is solid. There are a couple of bugs I hope get fixed; one is that the whole app occasionally freezes when I move quickly between clue options and the puzzle. The other is that, occasionally, the clues contract, dumping one or two or closing up a left-till-later clue-space -- leaving me with clues fitted up to the wrong numbers in the puzzle. Both of these issues are easy to get around; theyre just the reason Ive given four stars instead of five. At first I was completely stumped by the lack of an emailing/ exporting option. What good was it going to do me to get the crossword done efficiently on my iPad if I was going to have to copy the whole thing over again on an old PC and go through the whole transport rigmarole? Suddenly I had an epiphany, and felt simultaneously like an idiot: All I had to do was take screen shots, go to my photo stream, and email the photos of puzzle and solution to layout. So easy. When the bugs get fixed up, definitely 5 stars.

This app may very well do what it claims to do, but I cant find any documentation or online help anywhere. As this is the first crossword creating software Ive used, Im struggling to figure out where to start. I surely wish the author had taken ten minutes to write up some basic directions. I will never purchase any app from this author again.

How can you get your money back. Locks up and can not get it to work. Do not get it. I should have read the reviews

Read the reviews that said this app didnt have instructions but thought I could work my way through, especially with the help on the authors website. Sadly disappointed, authors website is a link to a Facebook page that gives direction to select options that arent in the app.

Im just cross that I purchased this useless non-user friendly app. No instructions. Could not get anywhere with this. I tried to rate this with no stars, apparently you have to at least check one star. there should be a place to mark a negative star rating, especially for an app like this one. Author needs to NOT create more apps...... Its just not going to be your forte`!
